Making of The Hulk

I find the computer generated effects in films really interesting. In this short video the company that did the special effects and computer generated animation for the hulk film talks about how they managed to transform Mark Ruffalo into the hulk using computer generated animation. One thing i don't like about computer generated animation for films is that most of it is just motion capture and although animators will be used to make sure the movement looks realistic and appealing because even when the movement is captured by motion capture it may not look as appealing as movement that is animated without motion capture. I think in a way animation is more realistic than live action because it is more exaggerated and appealing than live action.

Teeth

I saw teeth at manchester animation festival and really enjoyed it. My favourite thing about it was the voiceover, it really set the mood and tone for the animation it was also produced very well and sounded very high quality, it made me realise how much of an impact good sound can have in an animation. Also the ambient music really added to the atmosphere of the animation and also matched the animation really well. I really liked the visual style of the animation and i thought the animation itself was very smooth and effective. The textures and the colour scheme for the animation was very fitting to the mood of the animation and went well with all the elements of the film.

Prologue

I saw Prologue at an Oscar nominated short animations screening, i had heard briefly about the short and knew it was from Richard Williams but wasn't too sure what to expect. I liked the medium and technique of this short, the fact that is it all hand drawn gives it an appeal and i like the way the use of colour is savored for focal points. However i thought the story wasn't very strong and i rarely think anticipation is held for too long but in this short i thought this was the case. I liked the use of the camera panning through space, this gives the viewer a better sense of the world in the film.

The Peanuts Movie

I recently watched Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie and i thought it was amazing. It was good in numerous ways but most importantly it was gripping and very enjoyable to watch and i think that is the most important thing in an animation because if it isn't enjoyable to watch then whats the point? The ability to take this charming comic strip and turn it into a cg film is very admirable and impressive. I've always wondered about combining hand drawn and computer generated animation and this movie pulls it off seamlessly, the two mediums are blended together so well. I love the quick snappy style of animation used, it adds to the charm and makes things more exciting through exaggeration.
